In this episode I'm joined by Robert Andrews, Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer at Mewburn Ellis LLP.
Robert took on the role of Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer (CIDO) at Mewburn Ellis LLP toward the end of 2021. He combines that role with membership of IP Inclusive Management, the governing board for the IP industry-wide I&D organisation ‘IP Inclusive’. Together those roles mean that most of his working life these days are spent immersed in I&D matters.
Before taking on the CIDO role, Robert’s professional life consisted of the typical fare of a partner in an IP legal services firm, with much of his time spent immersed in patent work for his clients in the oncology field or traveling to South Korea to meet fellow attorneys. The pivot to focus on I&D was, therefore, a big change in my professional life which has been both challenging and thought-provoking. That said, from a personal perspective he felt the change in focus was the natural next step in his own development. I&D topics have been major themes throughout Roberts home life. He’s long been involved with (and part of) diverse communities, so having the opportunity to apply that experience at work to help others he says has been invigorating.
